NEW DELHI: The first batch of 300 government-to-citizen (G2C) kiosks that was expected to be set up by Bartronics India in New Delhi by October 2009 will now be operational between end-January and February 15, 2010. Stating this, S S Upadhyay, vice president, Bartronics India, told network2media that the pilot G2C kiosk is already operational near the New Delhi railway station.
Bartronics India had won the rights from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to set up 2,000 G2C kiosks in the capital city, before the commencement of the Commonwealth Games 2010. Upadhyay said the whole project will be completed within the stipulated timeline of September 27, 2010.
Explaining the delay in setting up the first batch of kiosks, he said that there were significant changes in the site plans and hence the work had slowed down.
Each G2C kiosk will provide access to 13-14 government services including requests for services like payment of electricity, water bills, telephone bills, birth and death certificates, passport applications etc.
Upadhyay said that the kiosks will also be equipped to offer business to citizen (B2C) services, which would be ‘paid for’ unlike the G2C services that would be free of cost. The B2C services would be such like airline and railway reservation, movie ticket booking, hotel booking, and so on.
The B2C services will roll out from March 2010, he said, adding that the kiosks would be located in the residential areas and at subways. They will not be located near the main roads.
The G2C services will be universal but the B2C services will be location-specific in that the kiosks located in south Delhi would provide B2C services that can be accessed in south Delhi itself.
To ensure the security of the kiosks, Bartronics will install IP surveillance cameras on each to monitor the movement of people around them.
Talking about the project, Amiya Chandra, additional deputy commissioner and head - advertisements & remuneration project cell, MCD, said there are also plans to install GPS on 2,000 autorikshaws plying the roads of Delhi. With that, people can hail autos by placing a request at a kiosk, to call an available located nearest to the kiosk.
It may be recalled that Bartronics has tied-up with Selvel Media for the outdoor advertising on the kiosks, and IBM for the IT infrastructure.
