The Media owner switched the lights off on selected billboards and all LEDs for the duration of 'Earth Hour'. POD also took its support one step further by wrapping a banner around LEDs with
a strong message of encouragement for all South Africans to also participate in 'Earth Hour' 2011.
"We decided that just switching the lights off was not good enough, which is why we have bolstered the communication with creative which states 'We've switched off this billboard in support of Earth Day – 26 March and a sustainable future for our children. Please join us. POD Primedia Outdoor,'. In addition, and vital to the overall message, the branding has been produced in specifically formulated eco friendly material, "says POD's CEO, Michael de Charmoy.
"We cannot be passive participants in this campaign, because, if we do not make a difference now it will affect our children's future. A big thank you to our clients Vodacom, Castrol and Nedbank who agreed to have the lights switched off on their billboards at key locations in Gauteng, Kwa-Zulu Natal and the Western Cape."
"This campaign is a vital step in ensuring that we as an outdoor advertising company really do care about our world. It is not the only way we care about our environment but it is one of the key initiatives we actively participate in, in ensuring our actions make a difference for future generations. We encourage all media owners and South African companies to support this initiative as well."
